Adaptive Re-Use

An ongoing and expanding need in architecture is the creative re-use of existing buildings. We have been involved in a long series of adaptive re-use projects, transforming existing buildings and brown-fields sites into revitalized places for different types of occupancy.

The Jenny Trout Centre went through a metamorphosis from an abandoned industrial site into a thriving medical centre housing numerous and diverse professional offices. The tension between new and old creates wonderful design opportunities where the embodied energy of a century old structure becomes re-purposed with new use, and in some instances a showcase of juxtaposed materials.
