| The firm has provided a variety of commercial/industrial clients over the years with additions, alterations and conversions. One of the most recent was the creation of XIS, a ‘boutique’ hotel in Stratford. Situated on the corner of Market Square the building was originally designed in the seventies as a bank. When built it was very controversial not only for its appearance which many said did not complement the historic area but also because it replaced a well established part of the city's prime commercial area. Working within the budget meant most of the original building elements had to remain. However the design challenge remained to transform it not only from a bank but from an unsympathetic building to a modern hotel that added to the urban architecture without simply copying it. The existing bank mezzanine was extended to provide a complete second floor where six exclusive suites were added. The main floor houses a spa and breakfast room and the hotel's lobby. A new entrance was created facing the square giving the building a new address, 6 Wellington Street, and a name XIS. Just up from Stratford City Hall is Hudson’s Department Store – a fixture in this city for many years. In the mid-90’s, our office was engaged to provide a new façade that would help bring the building into the next century with an appealing updated exterior. Several other businesses along the same street followed Hudson’s lead making this stretch of shops and restaurants more appealing to local residents and tourists. Our firm was engaged by Standard Products to provide the exterior restoration to the corner façade of their 1920's masonry factory on Erie Street in Stratford. This was followed by new windows and vinyl siding to the entire building. Interior entrance and office renovations followed. The final result created an attractive building at a main intersection as you enter the City. Other Projects Stratford LCBO Young’s Funeral Home Rheo Thompson Candies Woodstock Toyota |
